For breakfast

You went out last night and woke up tired, or you woke up early and a long, active day awaits you. Either way, tt doesn´t matter, breakfast is the most important meal of the day and in Tarifa there is plenty to choose from. The typical Andalusian breakfast is coffee, toasts with olive oil, crushed tomato and salt. They serve it both in traditional cafes and in the most chic hotels. Café Azul, on Batalla del Salado street, is a classic of Tarifa´s modern era. It has been open for more than twenty years and retains the same charisma as the first day. Healthy breakfasts based on fruits, juices and smoothies, artisanal pastries, sweet and savory crepes and powerful energy breakfasts. Of the same style but closer to the Industrial Estate is Manduka, also in Batalla del Salado.

For Lunch and Dinner

Cádiz is fried fish and fried fish is Cádiz. The best in Tarifa is served in Playa Blanca, in the Plaza de San Martín in the old town. It is a bar of just 20m2 but with a large terrace. If you go alone, we recommend that you make a space at the bar and eat inside to savor both the fish and the Tarifeña culture. In front of the port's fishermen's entrance there are bars like El Cocedero, El Puerto or El Ancla where they also serve fried fish and tapas. Guzmán el Bueno street is the tapas street with several bars in a row, they are all good and in high season it is not easy to find a table. Other restaurant areas with varied and top-level gastronomic offerings are in front of the port's passenger entrance and on the Alameda promenade. 

For Coffee

Tarifa is famous for its sweets and cakes. There are three high-quality artisan pastry shops: La Tarifeña -on Calle de la Luz-, Bernal -on Calle Sancho IV- and Las Delicias -in Batalla del Salado-, which is the only one of the three that has a cafeteria. You can buy the cakes in any of the other two and sit at the Continental -on Alameda-, at the Café Central or El Morilla -on Sancho IV street- which are the typical cafes.

THE BEACHES OF TARIFA

Tarifa has many types of beaches, very long and tiny, with stones and sand, coves that are difficult to access but pleasantly intimate, and it has some where even in the middle of August you can be alone. Playa Chica, next to the port, is the beach social center of the tariff, a condensed family beach. In these few square meters of sand you can find the authentic Tarifa. They share sand from the mayor to the unemployed. Just across the road from the island is the Los Lances beach area known as El Balneario. On the other side of the port is La Caleta, with a special attachment for Tarifeños for its views of Morocco, its intimacy even in high season, its clean waters and its rich fauna.

If what you want is to sunbathe surrounded by sculpted bodies while people kite and windsurf in the water, we recommend Arte Vida - between the Hotel Dos Mares and Camping Tarifa, Tangana - in front of the Torre de la Peña II campsite - and Valdevaqueros -versus 100% Fun-. All three have garden areas, food, drinks and good music. Today you may prefer to shelter from the wind and lie down in a hammock next to a pool and enjoy the sun in a cozy Balinese-style place, how inviting! Don't hesitate and stop by Pachamama, in front of Camping Jara.

If you like hidden and secluded places, there is Punta Paloma beach and the series of wild coves that exist before reaching Bolonia beach. They are not very crowded when the east blows and with much less people when the west blows. When you go to the beach don't forget sun protection and bring back the trash. The vast majority of beaches in Tarifa are wild and difficult to access for cleaning. It is important to respect the environment. Enjoy nature but take your trash back home and throw it in the nearest bin.
